February 2021 Music Recap

February has been a very generous month for me in terms of song discoveries. A lot of the songs I’ve been listening to this past month are ones that I’m insanely in love with and will definitely be listening to for the rest of my life. February also marks the 1 year anniversary of me becoming a One Direction stan, so that’s fun! Now let’s get into what I was listening to all throughout February.

Taylor Swift: Evermore (2020) Songs Ranked

After the surprise release of July’s Folklore, there were a lot of questions about where Taylor Swift’s music direction was going. It was hard to tell if she was going to continue the indie/alternative-pop sound of Folklore, or continue making the sophisticated pop records that she’d become known for. With Evermore, she decided to continue the quiet, stripped-back sound of Folklore, but add in a bit more country flair. That gentle musicality, combined with the flowery and poetic lyricism, makes Evermore a very strong album in my opinion.

December 2020: Music Recap

I discovered a lot more songs this month than I usually do, and a lot of great songs at that. As you’ll see, I’ve been getting a lot more into the music of the Arctic Monkeys this month, and maybe you’ll see some albums for them in the future. Now without further ado, let’s getContinue reading “December 2020: Music Recap”

November 2020: Music Recap

November has been a weird month for me musically, because it felt like I wasn’t naturally discovering songs the way I used to. This month I had to actually go out and look for new music, which made the process of finding new songs a little bit more difficult than it usually is. However, I’veContinue reading “November 2020: Music Recap”

September 2020: Music Recap

It’s been yet another month filled with some great song discoveries, so here I’ll be listing all the songs I’ve started listening to over the past month! Also, for those who may care, this past month I sort of got back into my musical theatre phase (I was really into it a couple years ago then randomly fell out of it) so you can expect some reviews of musical soundtracks in the future! Now without further ado, let’s get into the September Music Recap!

5 Seconds of Summer: Calm (2020) Songs Ranked

After moving into a new sound with the 2018 record Youngblood, 5 Seconds of Summer continued to branch out in terms of their sonic direction with their fourth studio album, Calm. While Youngblood (which is my personal favorite record of theirs) was very cohesive and focused on a pop-rock sound, Calm is much more eclectic and experimental. That’s not to say it doesn’t flow well though, because it does. Even though the songs all have very different sounds, the album still manages to feel like a complete, compact body of work, which is something that I have to give 5SOS praise for.
